Meet Marry Tran Hoffstead, LPC-Resident

Education

Marry Tran Hoffstead is a Resident in Counseling in the state of Virginia. She earned her Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Specialties

Marry brings experience working with adults and couples, specializing in marital/premarital counseling, relationship issues, and stress.

Therapeutic Approach

Marry takes an integrative approach to therapy, blending trauma-informed care, CBT, strengths-based practices, Choice Theory, and mindfulness to meet each client’s unique needs. She tailors her approach to help individuals feel seen, heard, and supported throughout their journey.

Philosophy

Marry believes therapy is about being human, not perfect. She encourages clients to focus on progress rather than perfection and understands that reverting to old habits is a natural part of the change process. Just as it takes time to develop habits, it also takes time to unlearn old patterns and build healthier, more productive ones.

Marry recognizes that everyone has gone through some “ish”; some experiences may feel worse than others, but that does not make your feelings any less valid. She often reflects on the saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” as a reminder that we never know how many times a person has reinvented or improved themselves over the years. With warmth and compassion, she creates a safe space for clients to navigate life’s challenges, build resilience, and reconnect with hope, passion, and dreams. She supports clients in exploring new goals and finding worth, hope, and meaning in their lives.

Meet Jennifer McLeod, LCSW

Specialties

Jennifer supports children, parents, and families navigating adoption, trauma, attachment, and family relationships. As an adoptive parent, resource parent, and parent support specialist, she brings both professional training and personal experience to her work.

She helps parents understand the “why” behind their children’s big emotions and challenging behaviors, offering practical tools that foster connection, regulation, and growth.

Therapeutic Approach

Jennifer offers compassionate, trauma-informed care tailored to each client’s needs. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), integrating these approaches to support healing, resilience, and emotional well-being.

Meet Kaitlin Burton, Intern in Counseling

Education

Kaitlin Burton is a graduate student at Bradley University, currently completing her clinical mental health counseling internship. She also has a background in education, with experience working with both middle and high school students and college students.

Specialties

Kaitlin enjoys working with children, teens, and families. She has experience supporting clients who are dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, family conflict, and other challenges that can make everyday life feel difficult.

One of Kaitlin’s main areas of focus is parenting and the parent-child relationship. She works with parents and children to better understand one another, improve communication, and build stronger, healthier relationships.

Therapeutic Approach

Kaitlin believes therapy should feel like a safe place where you can be yourself without fear of judgment. She takes a person-centered approach, meaning she meets each client where they are and works together with them to identify their goals.

With children, Kaitlin often uses play therapy, giving children a comfortable and natural way to express their feelings and work through difficult experiences. She also uses approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Parent-Child Relationship Therapy, and mindfulness-based techniques.

Every person is different, so Kaitlin takes the time to understand each client and tailor therapy to what works best for them.

Philosophy

Kaitlin wants her office to feel warm, welcoming, and comfortable — a place where you can slow down, feel heard, and work toward positive change.
