A New Chapter for Dragonfly—and for Me
A New Chapter for Dragonfly—and for Me
Sometimes growth looks like building something new. Sometimes it looks like recognizing that the way we have been moving through life needs to change.
For me, this season holds both.
You may have noticed a few changes around our website. We’ve refreshed our pages to make it easier to meet our therapists, explore services, find appointment options, and connect with our North Carolina and Virginia teams. We’ve also made space for recovery and peer support, along with the storytelling and conversations happening through Love After Goodbye and Jeremy’s Voice.
These updates reflect the people and work that make up Dragonfly today. They also arrive during a meaningful transition in my own life.
Making Space for My Own Healing
Following the death of my husband, Jeremy, and the many changes that have come with navigating life after loss, I have been learning what it means to listen to my own needs.
I have made the decision to step away from providing clinical services for a period of time so that I can give myself some intentional space to focus on my own healing and well-being. My final day providing therapy before this break will be November 10, 2026.
This has not been an easy decision. The relationships built in therapy matter deeply to me. It is a privilege to be trusted with someone’s story, and stepping back from that work carries real emotion.
But being able to support others does not mean we stop needing support ourselves. Knowing how to talk about boundaries, grief, and self-care does not make practicing them effortless.
I am learning to make room for the same humanity I encourage others to honor in themselves.
Stepping Back From Therapy, Not From Dragonfly
I am remaining actively involved as Dragonfly’s founder and CEO, continuing to lead the practice, support our team, and provide clinical supervision.
Our therapists will continue providing care. For clients affected by my break, we are working together on next steps, including opportunities for warm introductions to another clinician. Your needs, preferences, and continuity of care remain important throughout this transition.
Dragonfly has grown beyond one person. That growth means our practice can continue serving our communities while I take this necessary space.
More Ways to Connect
Our refreshed website also reflects a broader understanding of support and connection.
Alongside counseling and clinical supervision, we are introducing recovery and peer support services. Our podcast pages offer another way to explore conversations about grief, healing, identity, recovery, and meaningful change. You’ll also find information about reaching out with a guest story or interview inquiry.
These are different kinds of connection, each with its own purpose. What ties them together is a belief that people deserve to be heard and treated with dignity.
A Space for Our Team’s Voices
Moving forward, we plan to share weekly posts here about topics relevant to everyday life—relationships, parenting, mental health, grief, recovery, and the challenges of being human.
I’ll also be inviting our therapists to contribute their perspectives, interests, and areas of expertise. My hope is that this becomes a place where you can get to know the people behind Dragonfly and find something useful to carry into your week.
Thank you for being part of this community and for allowing Dragonfly to grow and change.
I don’t have every part of this next chapter figured out. For now, I am making a thoughtful decision about what I need, while continuing to care about the practice and people who mean so much to me.
There is room for both.
Warmly,
Dawn Marie Hall
